Know Their Names is part of the Fare Network Black Lives Matter campaign. It is an Everycolour diversity project in collaboration with the National Football Museum and St Wilfrid’s Primary School, Manchester.
This replaced the museum visit, which was cancelled due to Covid-19. This film, which credits Fare, is now also used by the museum with other schools. The presentation has also been tweeted about, including Fare mentions.
Research
The research for the project began with a specially filmed presentation by the National Football Museum (NFM) focusing on each of our 11 chosen footballers and how they are represented in the museum’s displays. Having watched the presentation and then took part in a Q&A Zoom meeting with NFM’s Christian Allen.
Pupils had access to further core research material for each footballer and a BBC TV reporter also prepared a short bespoke video on the importance of source material.
In addition to the pupil work, most footballers have been nominated by someone appropriate in the football world who contributes their view of the importance of that player.
